Dear Mom of Little Ones,
This is not your season for a picture perfect home.
You can try to spend your entire day cleaning, organizing and tiding up only to find everything right back the way you started within 5 minutes of your toddlers being free to roam. Accomplish cleaning the kitchen only to find the living room a disaster. Stare at those Better Home and Gardens magazines all you want, this is not your season for a staged home. Toys will fill your rooms. Tiny dirty clothes will cover your carpet. You’ll have a diaper changing station in every other room. And while your house will most definitely not be tidy, it will be filled with more love than one home can contain. Tis’ the season for a dirty house!
This is not your season to be a trend setter.
You love keeping up with the styles and looking put together just as every woman does, but if you have a clean shirt on…you’re as put together as it’s going to get for your day. You may not have time to look in the mirror until the kids are back asleep at the end of the day. Your kids will more than likely be dressed better than you most of the time. Embrace it and know to your little ones, you are the most beautiful person in the world no matter what you have on. Tis’ the season for little me time, fewer showers and to stock up on dry shampoo.
This is not your season for R&R.
Sleep is never promised with little ones. When you tuck those sweet baby soft bodies in the their beds at night, there is no guarantee they will sleep through the night. Once you have two kids, it will become nothing short of a miracle to have them both sleeping at the same time during the day. Go to bed early and remember this season of sleeplessness will be short lived. Tis’ the season to purchase more eye cream.
This is not your season to be a top chef.
Dinner parties, 4 course meals and new recipes are a thing of the past. You may even find yourself serving multiple dishes to satisfy all the little taste buds sitting at the table. More food will likely end up on the floor than in bellies or on plates. If everyone is fed, pat yourself on the back for a job well done. Tis’ the season of Hamburger Helper. Keep it simple, momma.
While it seems like this season of your life is full of challenges, lack of self and sanity, know that this is your season for joy. Unimaginable, indescribable joy. A pure childlike joy that your children will bring to your day at the most unexpected times and often in the most frustrated moments. This is your season for love. Love that is uncontainable. Love that has no boundaries and flows out unconditionally like our Father’s love. This is your season to be a kid again yourself, enjoy life like never before and do the most important job you will ever have. Enjoy this beautiful season sweet momma. It will go by so quickly and the memories you make now will carry you through all your seasons to come.
