I love the holidays. Halloween leads into Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving leads into Christmas, Christmas into New Year’s Eve and so forth. It’s such a fun, festive time of year and a great time to get ourselves and our children into the spirit of giving.
But, this time of year also usually comes with a lot of busyness and hoopla. From shopping to decorating, Parties to receiving gifts, and the non-stop going, it makes it easy to forget the true meaning of the holidays. That’s where these books written by Soraya Diase Coffelt truly come in handy. Soraya helps you tell your children the true meaning of the holidays thru fun, historical and religious children’s christian books.
“Soraya is a widow and the mother of two sons. A lawyer and former judge, she has served as a lay children’s minister for many years. God has given her many creative ideas for ministering His Word to children, and her books are among them. In 2012, Soraya established the non-profit corporation, As the Stars of the Sky Foundation, Inc. to assist with the physical and spiritual needs of children.”
Soraya has written the following books, which have been a blessing to my daughter, and will be to my son as soon as he is old enough to understand.
It’s Not About You, Mr. Pumpkin: A Love Letter About the True Meaning of Halloween is a fun story about the history of Halloween and how the United States incorporated. The illustrations clearly describe the history of Halloween in a fun and understandable way for kids. My favorite part of the book, however is at the end where Soraya includes an invitation for the child to make Jesus Lord of his/her life.
It’s Not About You, Santa Claus: A Love Letter About the True Meaning of Christmas is a book about the true meaning of Christmas. Unfortunately, in our modern time, a lot of children do not know the true meaning of Christmas. They think it’s all about Santa Claus and do not realize it all has to do with the birth of Jesus. Soraya clearly explains in detail the meaning of Christmas straight from the Bible. She includes the invitation for the child to accept Jesus as Lord of his/her life in this book as well, along with a dedication of the book to Jesus, along with her two sons and late husband.
It’s Not About You, Mrs. Turkey: A Love Letter About the True Meaning of Thanksgiving explains the true history of Thanksgiving and religious background of this Holiday. I love the examples of giving and sharing this book illustrates. In a day where we get so caught up in the meal, it’s great to have a children’s book to take us back to our heritage, our beginnings and the Biblical teachings of giving thanks. The book reminds us of the challenges our ancestors felt, how blessed we are to be able to freely worship and that our love for one another should overshadow any differences between us.
These books will be a family tradition for years to come. Every year, we read the Bible before opening our presents on Christmas morning. These books have added to that tradition and will continue to be a tool for us to use to teach our children the true meaning of these special holidays.
