This is literally one of the most simple and easy up-do hairstyles I have ever worn. It’s so easy that it can be done in one minute! It is my new go-to hairdo in place of the ponytail. All you need is a headband. I have several that are the same color of my hair that blend in well that you can’t even tell I’m wearing a headband. I have also used fancier headbands for special events or when I wanted to give it a more bohemian look. It works so well when I need a professional look as well! It also helps to hide the frizziness of my natural curly hair on rainy days! If you have more than just a minute or two to spend on it, you can do a braid and twist it in. You can also use bobby pins for extra security, but I haven’t used bobby pins yet when doing mine. As long as your elastic band is tight enough, you shouldn’t need to do anything else. If you find your elastic band is too loose, you can also cut it and retie it with the tightness you need. For the purpose of the tutorials below, I used a plain white elastic headband so you could easily see what I am doing.
It literally only takes one minute to do! So quick and easy.
Step 1: Start by putting your elastic head band on. I like to wear mine set back a little on my head so that I can still style the front of my hair and its not pulled back tightly in the twist.
Step 2: Once you get your headband secured, start twisting and tucking! Take a piece of your hair and twist and tuck it in and around the elastic headband. Continue doing this all around your head with sections of your hair until all your hair is tucked in tightly.
You don’t have to worry about it tucking in perfectly in the beginning, because you can go back and correct anything at the end.
The best part is any imperfections can be easily tucked away. I also love to do the half up, half down version when I have more time to fix the sections of my hair that are down. For this version, I usually twist the same piece of hair until it has gone around the headband the length of that section of hair. If I need any additional hair to cover the elastic band, I’ll take it from the back after I’ve done the two side sections. See more on wearing it half up, half down in the second tutorial below.
So easy and simple and can still look sleek or casual! You can really do so much with this simple hairstyle and it’s a great alternative to the ponytail. Have fun with it and let us know if you come up with any other great updos in the process!
