In the midst of motherhood, it can be challenging to take time for yourself and do the things you need to do to feel refreshed. Even simply having time to wash and fix my hair can make me feel revived. Below are some tips for new moms to ensure you take a few moments for you everyday.
Okay, I know you are exhausted and sleep seems to come less and less, but if you can try to wake up even just a few minutes before the little ones, you can use this time to spend solely on yourself. Try setting your alarm 15-30 minutes before everyone else in your home wakes up. Spend this time on yourself. Take a shower, put on something clean, apply your lotion, grab a cup a coffee and spend sometime praying before your day begins. Dedicating a few extra moments to this daily will keep you feeling renewed and you will begin to long for this quiet time to yourself verses debating on whether or not to get up out of bed.
Take an afternoon or day to yourself. For me, Sunday afternoon is my time to spend on myself. I may choose to run errands, take a long bubble bath, read a magazine or do my hair. It’s important for us mommies to take time for ourselves so that we don’t get lost in the daily shuffle.
Exercise. Okay, I really really need to take my own advice here. This one is hard to take time to do as a new mom… especially in the first few months. But even getting outside for a short walk or taking 20 minutes to stretch can help your body, mind and spirit.
Plan an a spa day. It doesn’t have to be an expensive day at a spa, you can have a spa day in your own home. Take a steamy shower, exfoliate, wrap your hair up in a towel and do your nails. Doing this for yourself once a month will revive your skin and make you feel refreshed.
No matter what activity you choose to do for yourself, the important thing is to remember to take some time for YOU. Spending time away from your family to focus on yourself for a few moments does not make you any less of a mother, but in fact, will make you a better mom because your spirit will be renewed!
